Taplow Care Home, Maidenhead, Berkshire
Landscape strategy to strengthen the context of the site, utilising the existing vegetation and topography to provide containment. The main gardens of the care home comprise a sequence of rooms transitioning from formal through parkland, to a natural landscape. The formal themed gardens include a sensory garden and a memory garden to provoke memories of plants appropriate for residents with dementia. Fruiting espalier trees within grass provide a different formal character. Archways through formal hedgerows lead out to an informal area with parkland trees, spring bulbs and meandering paths. Beyond the parkland is a more informal area with controlled access, providing wildlife interest for the residents, including an existing pond, native planting and areas of wildflower meadow.
