Walled Garden, Stockwood Discovery Centre, Luton

Stockwood Discovery Centre was developed with financial assistance from Heritage Lottery Fund. A comprehensive design was developed for the existing walled garden within the historic setting of Stockwood Park that incorporates a sensory garden, a garden demonstrating styles from around the world, and a medicinal and healthy-eating garden. There is also a discovery area for children with challenging play equipment and an education area focusing on sustainability. The project included close liaison with the client, architect, exhibition designers, access consultant, engineers and quantity surveyors, as well as well as public consultation, to provide an environment of discovery through interpretation and play. The practice developed and led a programme of public information and participation events including a ‘salvage day’ and a ‘planting day’. The Walled Garden was awarded a CPRE Mark.
