New build store on the edge of the town centre, adjacent to a section of the River Lea. Situated within a former brewery site within a Conservation Area and incorporating a listed brewery building, the design required a significant amount of consultation with the local planning authority, statutory consultees, and local residents. Much of the site incorporated poor quality buildings, hardstanding and unmanaged land. The proposals included opening up access to the river edge with a footpath and cycleway, naturalised river bank treatment to improve linkages for otter populations, enhanced boundary treatments within the open space and a significant increase of trees within the site. Particular attention was given to enhancing the character of the Conservation Area and setting of the listed buildings with the provision of high-quality finishes and materials.
