Preparation of a successful PFI Bid to Essex County Council for a new secondary school and two refurbished schools in Clacton-on-Sea.
The brief required the inclusion of art works and the creation of an attractive and stimulating external environment using the principles of ‘Learning Through Landscapes’. Proposals for Bishops Park College, the new secondary school, created a number of sub-schools and recreational areas within a college campus ethos. External areas adopted coastal landscapes as a character theme and included an all-weather pitch, tennis courts, grass sports field pitches, nature area and energy park, sculpture garden, and outdoor performance area. The new school was winner in the RIBA Spirit of East of England Ingenuity Awards and was one of five schools in the UK to win an award for “Excellence in Design” from 4P’s.
