Landscape proposals to support a detailed planning application for a large-scale mixed-use housing scheme in Sutton, south-west London. The design aim was to unite two large development sites on either side of the River Wandle, including removal of concrete canalised edges, re-profiling of river banks, creation of a rich habitat corridor along river edges, and dredging and recreation of a historic millpond. Working closely with two architects and the wider design team, the practice developed an innovative and sustainable scheme within Hackbridge, considered to be London’s greenest neighbourhood. The scheme creates a unique riverside setting for the new buildings and brings significant green infrastructure improvements by opening a new section of the Wandle Trail, providing new pedestrian footpaths and cycleways.
