Conversion of former psychiatric hospital founded by John Langdon Down (for patients with Down syndrome) and surrounding parkland to residential development. Site required a sensitive design response due to its location within a Conservation Area and the presence of Listed Buildings, Metropolitan Open Land and a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation.
Commission included preparation of landscape and townscape appraisals alternative site layouts in collaboration with architects, a landscape masterplan and a detailed landscape management plan, and appearance as expert witness at Section 78 appeal .
A successful planning appeal was followed by detailed design of hard and soft landscape works and inspection of works implemented on site. Designs proposals were prepared for amenity open space, communal garden areas, central driveway and parking areas, and setting of the Listed Buildings.
