Design of external works for purpose built office development that brings together shared public sector services for Suffolk County Council and Waveney District Council, on a reclaimed site overlooking Lake Loathing, Lowestoft.
The exposed location presented a number of environmental challenges including a very free draining soil, areas of potential contamination, a harsh wind and coastal climate. All of which were addressed in the choice of plant species and materials.
Work commenced at early design stages, working with SCC design team and continued under novation to the successful contractor, Kier (East). Scope included the design of a central visitors’ plaza with semi-native trees, the external spaces, parking and circulation as well as hard and soft landscape detail design, specification and site inspection.
