A £16 million regeneration package to enhance and promote the image of Great Yarmouth as an exciting and vibrant destination. Landscape consultancy services were provided for the design and implementation of several elements of the project. Physical and visual linkages between the town centre and the seafront were improved through the pedestrianisation of the busy Regent Road linkage. The practice advised the project team from the development of concepts, through to the selection of paving materials, selection of appropriate furniture, design of feature lighting elements and development of a signage and orientation strategy.
Significant improvements were made to the seafront esplanade balancing highway requirements with those of pedestrians, to create a people friendly environment. The emphasis was on innovation and creativity to design places that would attract new visitors as well as improve facilities for all who live and work in the town. A large new public space was created as the centre point to the project, for which the practice designed a high-quality scheme incorporating innovative seating, lighting, paving and a planting scheme suitable for harsh maritime climate.
