Partnership with Suffolk County Council and Waveney District Council to deliver the £14.7 million Waveney Sunrise Scheme to transform Lowestoft’s town centre and seafront. An urban design framework was developed centred on the opportunities created by a new link road and the desire to reconnect the run-down retail area to the seafront. Proposals included traffic calming and redirection, the creation of a new public open space with interactive fountains, the restoration of the seafront promenade and the formation of improved connections between the seafront and the town.
Designs were developed in consultation with key stakeholder groups, enabling potential conflicts to be resolved at an early stage in the design process. An Arts Strategy was developed working closely with the project’s artists to implement a number of interventions ranging from bespoke play equipment to pavement etchings and a national competition for a large sculpture.
